Media Balance is a huge topic that I would model as a teacher. Students nowadays are growing up with more and more access to technology than ever before and while technology can be used for a great many things and has a lot of positive uses. It can also be a time waster and used for some not so great things. I find it important to model to students that while technology is great, there needs to be a balance and that it doesn’t need to be and shouldn’t be used for everything.
I would embed media balance in my content area by not only modeling balance, but also through discussion with students about why it is not necessary to use media or technology for everything. It's the idea of, just because we can, doesn’t mean we should. Yes, you can spend all day on the computer, but you really probably shouldn’t. Art is a great way of showing this balance. While you could just take a picture and call it good, doesn’t mean that that’s the best way of representing your ideas. There are both digital and traditional art making methods that should both be explored as the material and process of making art is just as important as the art in an of itself.
